Last gasps of the summer

Autumn has really started to kick in, even though it is still very early September. There might be lots of colour else where in the country, but in the rather bland and grey housing estate that we live in, any colour of nature can look well out of place..

These berries reminded me of my childhood, when we used to spend hours collecting them - then a handful of minutes trying our hardest to stain everyone else's coats in the following berry fight.

Nowadays, the only thing kids tend to throw are sticks and stones (in the posh areas) and it is never in good humour.

Ye Gods, I must be getting old!
