THE SCOTSMAN STEPS EDINBURGH

In 2011 a stairway behind the railway station leading from such lower level to the heights of the North Bridge was given a facelift by being transformed by Martin Creed an artist who was commissioned by the Fruitmarket Gallery and financed by a variety of generous sources. He used 104 different coloured marbles from all over the world to create each step and landing of a different colour.
Prior to this endeavour the steps and landings had become dilapidated and an area frequented by undesirable characters; now they are once more a valued and attractive thoroughfare used by all and maintained by the City of Edinburgh Council.
