adirondack pitcher plant
Sarracenia purpurea, subspecies venosa.
One of three carnivorous plants in the Adirondacks.
Lives on a floating bog, with no soil for nutrition.
The flower attracts insects,
and if they land in the red, liquid filled "pitcher" leaves on the ground,
they can not escape.
