Uncle John's tattie peelin plant
This winter flowering cactus has been in my family for well over 60 years. My late Uncle John had the original which in his own inimitable fashion dubbed a tattie peelin plant. The leaves are a giveaway! He had a great sense of fun and was very much my favourite uncle. All interested parties in the family were given a rooted cutting and so it continued. When my last offspring reached 3 feet in diameter and one of the cats was using it as a nest, I decided it was time to divide and conquer. Several babies were given away and I held onto this one which is bearing flower buds. I wonder if this wee handful of leaves is aware of its rich history. As for the glass of red? Most things are improved by a wee glass of a decent wine, especially Uncle John 's tattie peelin plant.
