What's This??

A shrub, dark green leaves, gets tall ( 10ft ). This late Autumn, for the first time it's producing masses of tiny white, very sweet smelling flowers. I knew it could flower, but never discovered how best to prune to get it going. Early September I lopped the tops of, so it's about 6ft.
So, can anyone tell me what this might be?. I so like winter flower, especialy if it's perfumed, would be nice to know how to get it doing this again.
