Catherine Lacey: BoyStory

This Charming Man

The boys got haircuts at the local barbers. In a tiny row of about 20 shops, 8 of them are hairdressers, but we headed to the only one open on the strip.

Other than the wrestling on the floor and them kissing each other, such episodes are usually accompanied by lots of loving between them. They are indeed good boys. I found myself smiling at them when I was just getting a blow dress, sitting as they were in the styling chair behind me, curved into one chair so that I was seeing their reverse in the mirror.

We popped down to Oceanside to have our pics taken. I took this quickly in the playground, their release for falling in with the boys. I happen to be enjoying using tarmac as a pretty backdrop.

Let me just say that I know the hassle of getting kids ready and briefed. Callum remarked how he'd like his eyebrows waxed too. And then there's the thinking about what to wear and the rest. I get it. Never mind the, I'll wait til I'm slimmer, got a pretty dress to hand, wait til I'm younger. But I think it all came good. And in the 2hr drive back, I swear I've never heard funnier, more eye watering interplay in the back of the car, nor have I been asked so many questions, the latter they would announce in intervals as "I have 8 questions. The first question is…" Long may the days of everlasting questions remain.

Happy birthday to my little sister Geraldine, sweet 43.
