Ballerina Buds

I think this is a magnolia, gardener I am not. The whole plant appears dead and has brown woody branches, but out of them have grown these delicate flowers which look almost ballerina like or maybe sea urchin creatures instead. I have several photos which show some of them bursting out of fluffy cocoon type buds but this one I liked the best as it is such a pure and isolated lovely thing.
The Lensbaby gives this such emphasis and clarity, it is a seriously fun toy.
