An original model of one of the gerberettes on the Pompidou Center, hand carved at 1/7th scale. Which means it was supposed to be 1:5, but they couldn't find a big enough bit of timber - or possibly paper...
Part of an exhibition on Gundalk-born engineer Peter Rice, organised and financed by a number of his friends and associates to ensure he's not forgotten. I was surprised to realise it's now 21 years since he died.
A lovely 30 minute film at the end explains why he was so important - only the second engineer, and second Irishman, to receive the RIBA Gold Medal for Architecture - helped immensely by the fact that his friends include Lord Rogers and Renzo Piano.
