Dark season is with us now

It is only 4 PM but it´s getting dark yet although some light of sun is seen on the clouds. Raining stopped during afternoon but heavy clouds still remains.

In Finnish language have many words describing different types of weather. One word in "pouta" meaning not raining but can be cloudy. My dictionary says only dry or fair weather. Is there any other word in English for "pouta"?
By the way, the surname for one of the most famous meteorologist at commercial broadcast is Pouta.
