waiting

waiting to get in to the shala for the morning class...

There is a story of a student who waited for three lives. The teacher said he wanted to see how much he could wait.

The student had a competitive mind and wanted to challenge the teacher "Let's see who can wait longer, you or me". And the teacher agreed: "Okay, then, let it be a waiting for both. If you are waiting, I am waiting."

It became difficult for the teacher, he had to come back for three lives. Every time he would come and sit, and every time the same story was repeated: the student was waiting. In the end the teacher lost patience, and he said, "Take this key. You have won; I am defeated."

The student asked, "Why are you in such a hurry? I can wait still more."
He said, "You can wait, but I have to come to this earth unnecessarily for this waiting, and it looks as if you can continue forever. So take this key." But the student said, "Thank you, but I don't need it now. Waiting itself has become a key."
