Big questions still need to be asked
In the wake of the allegations flying around today that the UK government is suggesting a vote for Independence next year could signal the death knell for shipbuilding on the Clyde, I've been thinking a lot about what George Wyllie would have made of it all.
George, of course, made waves with his epic 75-ft Paper Boat, a social scul?ture built to highlight the decline of shipbuilding on the Clyde.
This led me to take a leaf through a handmade book George produced in 1989 at the same time he embarked on an epic voyage with his Paper Boat. This took him from Glasgow to Liverpool to London, Antwerp, New York and Dumfries.
I'm keeping the book safe until the newly-formed George Wyllie Foundation gets its Wyllieum up and running.
More Here
I wish I could show you the whole book.
It's classic Wyllie. Playful, serious and pin sharp. Beautifully crude too...
It was hard to pick my favourite page but sitting here listening to Question Time with Nigel Farage being given house room, I think this has to be the one.
Plus ca change? I particularly liked this page
