Odette

This lovely little oblong turtle has been in hospital since I got back from Africa. She is a wild turtle and was suspect hit by car, and sustained a crack through her carapace (top shell). The vet's have stabilized the fracture with sewing eyelets, strong glue and cable ties. However during her initial recovery she was being 'dry-docked' (kept out of water) and developed some rubbing/pressure wounds to her underneath plastron. These started to look better when she was finally allowed to go back into water but there was some concern this week that they were deteriorating again, so we anaesthetised her to have a good look.

Here you can see our vet S dremmeling her plastron. Making it smooth and debriding back the non-healing parts. We decided to give her a name since she'd been for so long - Odette the Oblong! Turtle fractures are generally always long term patients and she will most likely be with us for another couple of months yet!
