Sleep tight Alfie
Alfie didn't come in this morning for his breakfast. A quick look up and down the road waylaid any anxieties that he might have been hit by a car, so I just waited to hear his distinctive miaow telling me that he had missed his meal. A phone call from Will on the neighbouring farm put paid to that. He had found Alfie and carefully laid him in the barn for me to bring home. I buried him in the garden before the children returned from school with a few of my birthday flowers laid to mark his wee grave. Some may think it a little silly, but I loved that cat and his skittish ways. Murron sobbed herself to sleep and when I went out to tidy the earth around the grave I found a little letter to Alfie from Rowan.
