My days ...My life

Foundling wheel

It has been a day filled with amazing experiences ! We went early for a walk round the Duomo which was so beautiful. Tomorrow I will go again by myself . Too many spectacularly beautiful buildings and I found it hard to choose one for this blip . This is the clock in the Duomo . There was also a photo was taken on the steps outside Ospedale deli Innocenti opposite the Foundling Wheel. There isn't much time just now for description , but there was a door with a a special rotating wheel ,where mothers could leave their baby anonymously to be cared for in the orphanage. The guide told us stories of mothers leaving small identifying objects like rings or pieces of cloth which they could describe if they wished to reclaim their baby and there is a museum with all these objects displayed. What were their lives like ? How could you go on living if your baby went in that revolving door ?
We found the courtyard where the Medici family lived ...full of sculptures which we viewed through the gates. And a 16th century pharmacy which was delightful !
It has been a very special day with lots of stories , beautiful music and time with family.
