The Road Through Coombs Wood

It actually skirts the top of the wood which drops steeply down to the River Eden below - a very fast flowing and fast filling river which is plentiful in fish and therefore fishermen. Coombs Wood has some delightfully quiet, back to nature walks and most of them end up at the Fox and Pheasant pub in Armathwaite. There are also some very spectacular rocks which boast roped climbing (not for the amateur or passer by) and also displays the stone carvings which I mentioned in a previous blip (also not for the faint hearted or those wishing to keep their feet dry.) A great walk down to the river and on to The Fox but a slog back up. The artful, lazy, infirm or sensible amongst us drop a car at the other end.
