Dreams
Another half day at the museum library. My today's pic shows a horse made by Deborah Butterfield. It is a "leftover" of her big exhibition in 2008 and I always loved it a lot. She made these horses with pieces of wood that she had found, often on the beach in Hawaii, and she has invented a method to transform the wood into something as hard as metal, without changing the look.
While I was taking the picture a little boy, maybe 4 years old, said : Oh, a Dinosaur! When I suggested that it might be a horse, he said: well then the skeleton of a horse. Funny, I had never seen it that way. My mind had obviously nearly automatically filled in the empty spaces…
During the hours in the library I had started to dream of a shopping trip in pre-Christmas San Francisco. I saw lots of lights, great street decorations, me standing in front of the decorations of Tiffany's, Macy's or Neiman Marcus. Nice restaurant in the evening, breakfast near Fisherman's Wharf…
This got so tempting that I looked into the website of Megabus, and yes, I could book a trip from Reno to San Francisco and back for 22 $, which sounded great to me. The busses are comfy, you don't have to drive, you can read and are there in 4 hours and 15 minutes. So, a quick phone call with my husband and I booked the bus trip ticket. Then I noticed that I needed a hotel to stay over night… Frantically I searched all the hotel websites for a hotel room on that night. The prices started at 2000 Dollars (!) and the cheapest one in reasonable distance from Union Square and the bus stop was 300 Dollars… Places at prices between 80 and 180 Dollars were either too far away, or in a nasty neighborhood or had cockroaches and other dirt.
So that made my dream of a trip to San Francisco burst like a bubble.
Anybody who needs a bus ticket from Reno to San Francisco and back for November 19? I would give it to you!
