Lest We Forget
At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, we will remember them.
2013's Remembrance Day is the 95th anniversary of the armistice which ended World War 1 (1914–18).
Every year, Australians of all ages attend a service in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. A one minute silence is observed at the services at 11AM. The whole nation stops to observe the minute of silence and to remember those who died in war.
Remembrance Day services are held all over the city, suburban and country areas. My photo was taken at the Blackwood War Memorial, not far from where we live.
LARGE.
On the lawn next to the memorial there was a display called the "Field of Remembrance". (Blipped by Paladian)
Hundreds of crosses had been placed on the lawn with the name of each local area soldier who had given his life for his country. It's a sobering and heart wrenching tribute. I was pleased to see a large crowd in attendance - from school children to families to several remaining veterans from WWII.
Adelaide's largest Remembrance Day service was held at our state's National War Memorial on North Terrace in the city.
Due to the time this was taken it qualifies for Lenna's Sunday sky challenge, SundaySkies.
