Sunday

A lovely bright calm day so after I'd got the Christmas cake in the oven I set to and did a big tidy up of the garden. Very satisfying to pull up the last of the annuals, hoping they have self seeded by now, and cut back the wind battered blackened stems in the borders. Looking much neater already! The blackbirds were in there with their beaks straight away, digging into the fresh soil looking for worms and kicking the earth all over the place!

By mid afternoon it was getting too cold and dark to do much more so I came back into the house to be met by the smell of the Christmas cake baking. It was just about ready to take out of the oven. Perfect timing!
