Tapas Bar Valencia
Last year when the two of us spent a week in Valencia I looked on the internet for a Tapas Bar and the Casa Montana was highly rated on a few different websites. We loved it and thought it would be a good place for the five of us to visit this year after the exciting weekend at the circuit. Today was the day and yes they all loved it. We had a wonderful lunch of Tapas dishes including dried broad beans slowly cooked in a pork stock, thinly sliced tuna marinaded in olive oil, a variety of bruschetta, these are sooo very good, hand cut Iberian ham, scrambled eggs with boletus which may sound boring, it was excellent!!!! And the most wonderful potatoes; these are grown locally, cut into a barrel shape - as taught in catering college - and gently deep fried, served with a mild creamy sauce on one side of the plate and a delicious spicy tomato sauce - not Heinz ketchup - on the opposite side. And so on. On arrival the waiter suggested a vermouth, this was served chilled with a slice of lemon, and bearing mind how sunny and hot the day was a perfect drink and an unusual one for all of us. When eating we had a local Valencian dry white wine, better than perfect, the taste and flavour coped well with the flavours of the dishes. We all decided on a pudding, and a sweet white wine, a special treat that doesn't always work. This did. Two of us had a lemon mousse which was smooth, light and lemony, another pudd was a thin hazelnut cake/biscuit, this was to die for and the other two had a strange dish that is difficult to describe. A cylinder shape of a creamy cheese very thinly coated with... Not sure.. The taste evaded us but certainly interesting. An espresso finished us off. The service was exceptionally good and generally a great lunch out. The price if you are interested was just under 20 euros each.
The strange pudding was Canutillo Idiazabal,
