Thought I'd be clever and go out mid afternoon after the rain had stopped and the clouds had started to break. Big mistake as within a few minutes of leaving home the mist and fog rolled in and all the leaves of whatever type started to drip. So a bit of an easy blip with the river in flood tumbling over the rocks and depositing substantial debris as it goes. It's a fairly short river - the Yealm - but a good rainfall on Dartmoor where it rises produces a very strong flow down towards the estuary.
