Beauty

I inadvertently sparked off a discussion about feminine beauty with yesterday's blip - offering thanks to Kendall for making some very heartfelt observations. I certainly reject the notion of beauty in any kind of absolute sense. As I've become increasingly fascinated by the human face so I've come to see beauty in all kinds of faces, especially the older face. Maria here is beautiful to my eye, mostly because she's open and engaged with the world, being herself, not wearing a persona. It's become an irresistible challenge to try to capture this beauty (as I see it) with my camera. If there's a skill, it's in trying to remove the mask of self-consciousness that people often wear when the camera is pointed at them. I think I'm getting quite good at that - if I dare say so myself!

Back at work and the beginning of a long haul of hard work until Christmas. It's been tough getting back to the computer today. I'm not sure I want to admit that the highlight of my day was sitting around a table with Maria and three other lovely ladies at lunchtime, interrupting their coffee and fag break to enjoy some conversation and take a few photos. I think they quite enjoyed having a 'young' man as company for a short while! They seemed rather disappointed when I had to go!
