Blue Sky

I had an exciting day today--got to spend most of it at the library of the South African Astronomical Observatory, where everyone was ridiculously kind and helpful. I get the impression they don't have many non-astronomers passing through.

They also gave me a private tour of the museum and the Mclean Telescope (above), which was made in Dublin by Grubb's Telescopes. It's absolutely huge, and there was no way I could fit the whole thing into the frame without a wide-angle lens.

The day began at 7:30 with a swim here. It was much warmer this morning than it was 2 weeks ago. When I got out and drove up to nearby Muizenberg beach, I saw that the flags indicated that a shark had been spotted that morning already.
