After the man of many voices
has finished singing
and all the instruments
have been put to sleep

(the sax and the bass
and the electric guitars
are in their cases)

the remaining few
carry on drinking
and don’t bother
putting the world to rights

but recall past loves,
successes, failures,
and many many many
great nights
