View from the Citadel
The weekend falls on Friday and Saturday here in Egypt and there is no shortage of things to do. After last night's kitchen flooding incident was sorted, we jumped in a taxi and headed for the Citadel.
Once again, the tourists seemed to have better things to do and the place was practically deserted. As such, the ambience was very relaxed (almost peaceful even) and we had a lovely afternoon spent wandering around some impressive architecture, taking lots of photographs, and admiring the views of the city.
There was hardly any hassle at all, mainly just some dude trying to cash in on anyone taking photos from the rooftop. He was really quite irritating and followed me around for ten minutes with the following chat:
Him: "Come."
Me: "No thanks."
Him: "Photo?"
Me: "No thanks."
Him: "Family photo?"
Me: "No thanks."
Him: "Giza Pyramid. There."
Me "I know."
Him: "Tips?"
Jeezo. I don't mind handing out a bit of baksheesh where it's due, but this guy was just pushing his luck. Much better was the guide who gave us an excellent 5 minute spiel about Mohammed Ali's Palace. His baksheesh was well earned.
Nothing I shot today really did justice to the actual Citadel itself (I think you need to be further away) so it's the view from the Citadel that gets the blip treatment today.
Check it out big.
