Helium

A few days ago no.2 son took a sudden interest in atoms and started asking me lots of atom questions...some which I couldn't answer...so I showed him a simple diag. of an atom, and found him a short basic video which we watched together.

After a few days to do some looking of my own, we looked at an interactive periodic table today, I showed him how the table is ordered, and how atoms are constructed. we built a Helium atom, we wanted to build gold but we didn't have enough fluffy Pom-poms :0)

No.1 son and I talked about how the model isn't accurate because the distance from the nucleus to the electrons is not reproducible in a model.
Little man used the rest of the glass balls to make Christmas decorations by filling them with sparkly pipe cleaners and explained how to load and fire a canon using lego to demonstrate.
sweet girl spied Ingunn's kitten blip and wanted to know all about it. So I explained the kitten was in Norway, near Oslo. We looked Norway up on google earth, saw how far it was from us and we checked out a few Oslo streets. I showed her some of Ingunn's blips of street art and we visited Holen on google earth too. Then she wanted to know how Norwegian people speak so we found a video of a lady teaching Norwegian phrases and learned to say "you have a nice home".
