Remembrance..lest we forget..
Today Jo and I went to the remembrance service in Maidstone which is the county town of Kent, 32 miles (51 km) south-east of London.
Army barracks have been in the town since 1797. The Invicta Barracks are home to the Royal Engineers 36 Engineer Regiment, which includes two Gurkha field squadrons.
We stood and watched the various troops march past then followed to the memorial for the service itself. It was an incredibly moving experience. The crowds gathered and all observed the two minute silence then sang, prayed and clapped as the troops withdrew back to their barracks.
I left Jo to potter around her cottage and went on to Hall Place
A former stately home, the house dates back to around 1540 when wealthy merchant Sir John Champneys, Lord Mayor of the City of London in 1534, used stone recycled from a nearby former monastery, Lesnes Abbey, to build himself a country house.
I enjoyed wandering the greenhouse and gardens and a quick whirl around inside.
