An old friend.
Recently someone in a photography FB site I subscribe to asked us to post an image from our first (non-)digital camera.
I started down this path with a used Nikon N2000/50mm lens package I bought from Henry's in Toronto as a grad student. I used them almost exclusively for field work, and only dabbled in "recreational" photography as it was expensive to have stuff developed. Luckily I had access to oodles of B&W 35mm film, as well as a darkroom.
When I came to Acadia in 2000, everything changed. No dark room, 7-10 days to have film developed, etc... I quickly started to consider a digital camera, particularly for capturing images from microscopes. This was my choice, the Nikon CoolPix995. It came highly touted by someone that had the 990. I used this camera exclusively until 2007 when it malfunctioned and I had to buy a Canon Elph point and shoot when on holidays. I ultimately had this one repaired for use in the lab, but never really thought the Elph produced better images, even though it was 5 or 7 megapixels.
I then ended up buying a D80 as part of a grant to the herbarium, and the rest is history...
