Thursday: Thompson
Marko Perkovic, known as Thompson, is playing in Zagreb on Saturday night.
He is a highly controversial figure - he was a soldier during the Homeland War and his songs are incredibly patriotic, some say bordering on fascism. He was voted the third most influential Croatian but is an incredibly divisive figure because of his right-wing sympathies and has been banned from performing in German speaking countries. Yet his concerts command attendances of 60,000 plus.
If I tell you that he has taken his name from a Thompson machine gun, you can get a measure of the man. Suffice to say, I won't be going - if you want a (dis)taste(ful), here is his most popular song.
Croatia has come such a long way since the early 1990s and people like Thompson should have no place in modern Croatia.
