NOEM-NOEM

This indigenous plant of the Carissa family has tiny white flowers with the sweetest smelling fragrance. We love to stop on our way up the koppie and allow the fragrance to engulf us before continuing on our way.
If you look carefully you will notice the purple berry. As children we knew that we could eat these berries. I notice that even our dog stops to nip the berries off the branches, deftly avoiding the long sharp thorns.
The name noem-noem or num-num probably refers to the delicious sweet sour flavour of the berries. Yum Yum!
