Rose no. 1

So begins a series of photos of the roses in our garden. I got a bit...obsessed with them, and they will be my blip for a lot of the next few days.

Melbourne Cup Day! I spent most of it writing my report, but I did take some time out to watch the race (and the lead up). The favourite won and Dad got some money because on of his horses placed, but sadly we didn't become instant millionaires or anything. I usually place a bet based on the colour of the jockey's jerseys (it's a highly scientific method that I developed at age 10 and have honed ever since) but I abstained this year. So no money won or lost, which is maybe the best way to end Cup Day!

I kind of love the way the rose appears out of the gloom and almost glows. And the little orange bud is just exquisite - I can't wait to see how it blooms!
