From one line to another
The other day I received a comment from another Blipper who knew Seaham Harbour and recalled fish catches being hung out on the fence. I knew I had a negative of a similar pic that I took in 1964 when I was photographing the coal drops for a Bowes Museum (later Beamish) project. The coal drop I photographed and my friend drew plans for (he was a Dorman Long draughtsman) was eventually rescued and is sitting in Beamish Museum to this day awaiting preservation.
Anyway, the reason the fish were hung out was so that anyone who wanted fish could take some. The system wasn't abused and I imagine it solved many a cash flow problem!
After a few hours raking around dozens upon dozens of boxes I found the pic. Now the embarrassing part, I can't remember who the lady Blipper was and I think I was linked to her site when I replied so I've lost all trace of it. (Well I've not been well y'know -Manflu again)
So that's been my day, sorting photographs, filing and being sidetracked every few minutes by some of the forgotten treasures I've stumbled across.
