Did you ever read that book.... The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein?

...sad little story if you haven't.

After I saw these trees downtown, it made me think about the last page of that book, where the lonely old decrepit man sits on the stump of the tree....even when it has nothing left to give, it still gave him a place to rest.
