A young widows work

As it is still remembrance week, I thought it would be nice to show this embroidery signed and dated 1916/17.
It was done by my grandma while she waited for her young husband coming home from war.
He never did - he was 22 years old - He only met his 2nd daughter once (a few weeks old) and also left a daughter about 2 years old.
I have got his diaries and uniform buttons which were sent home after his death.
