Another lovely sunny day in Lyme Regis, though the temperature has definitely dropped. Unexpected morning off today, so decided to have a stroll across the seafront. So peaceful and calming, a walking meditation without having to really think about switching off from the world. The rest of the day was much less stressful after this.
The Canons that sit on the North Wall to defend the harbour have long since been out of use. see Dougthehat's comment below. All those years thinking they were there to protect Lyme and now realising they are just a bit of harbour bling!! LoL even Woodroffe didn't enlighten us on that one, will have to find out if my history teacher is still around/alive and ask why we weren't taught that!
Still, I wonder how many times they've been fired and how much damage they've committed to ships. A great feature to the North Wall, but I for one am glad we live in a much more peaceful time.
“Every war and every conflict between human beings
has happened because of some disagreement about names.
It is such an unnecessary foolishness, because just beyond
the arguing there is a long table of companionship set
and waiting for us to sit down.
What is praised is one, so the praise is one too,
many jugs being poured into a huge basin.
All religions, all this singing one song.
The differences are just illusion and vanity.
Sunlight looks a little different on this wall
than it does on that wall and a lot different
on this other one, but it is still one light.
We have borrowed these clothes,
these time-and-space personalities, from a light,
and when we praise, we are pouring them back in.”
