Ready, Set -- Dessert!

You are witnessing what happens when a large table laden with delectable cakes, several from our wonderful Mount Bakery, are offered up to any guest who can get up there quickly enough to grab the cake of their choice. It's the classic Dessert Dash.

Rich and I had the pleasure this evening of attending the 11th Annual Peace Builder Awards Gala in the beautiful Bellingham Cruise Terminal. My good friend Debra (at left, proudly clutching chocolate gluten-free cake) is on the Board of Directors and, wanting to support her and the good work of the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, we gladly attended.

It was a sold out crowd, with live music, a very impressive array of silent auction items, and a 'Wall of Wine". All the brightly gift wrapped bottles of wine were being sold for $10 a piece, but you had no way to know what kind of wine you were purchasing. And to make it even more exciting, there were several bottles valued at $50 each, and one bottle in the mix valued at $420! (no, I didn't get that one, but was standing next to the lucky woman when she opened her wrapper to see she had the special bottle of Opus 1 Cabernet.)

What a wonderful evening with good food and drink and friends, supporting a great cause!
