Ivy, wonderful Ivy

Wandering to the library and shops this morning I was thinking about today's blip. Surely, on such a lovely day, plenty of opportunities would arise. But when you look too hard you can't see a thing. So home I arrived, blipless.

Then I remembered how the ivy in our back garden was a buzzin' with wasps, bees and flies earlier in the week when it was sunny like today. And so it was, the ivy is on a south facing fence, in full sun and was alive with clouds of six-legged creatures, one of which is here, with his small buddy on the right.

I've always had a negative view of ivy - growing around trees and fences, pushing its way into all sorts of places. I knew that its flowers and berries were important to wildlife at this time of they year. I didn't realise quite how important 'til I saw its popularity with our insect brethren.

It's the middle of November and there are wasps hanging on there and bees galore. Thank goodness for the ivy. I'll have to wait until the spring before waging war on the stuff.
