Wareham Quay - Saturday market
A change of mood from the damp, dreary weather photographed on Monday 11th November.
Today I couldn't use exactly the same viewpoint on Wareham bridge as then, as it was occupied, initially by someone who looked like either a tourist or foreigner. Then the place was taken by a black-headed gull, which I did not under any circumstances wish to upset.
Wareham market is held every Saturday. During the summer months the quay is packed with stalls, but with few tourists now in sight the trading is not nearly so intense.
This photo features a special acrobatic display by a black-headed gull. Several dozen of its friends and relations can be seen on the water or on the quayside, many attracted by the food being distributed.
I had to move the gull a little to the right in the photo, as in the original its left foot overlapped one of the chimneytops and could have created the erroneous impression of the gull being (a) much larger and (b) a lot further away from the camera. Father Dougal would be in deep trouble here, perhaps even a little frightened.
A note for the confused. Father Dougal is an innocent, easily confused Irish priest in the TV series "Father Ted". (The word "eejit" comes to mind.) Some viewers believe the episodes to be comedies, I know from my own research that they are documentaries.
