A Grand Day out!
No, not the Wallis & Gromit film, but a great day nonetheless.
Started with joining some of the other men from the church for the bi-monthly men's breakfast, and then a quick dash back across town to get ready for the journey up to the London Wetland Centre at Barns.
Its not as big as the WWT facility at Slimbridge, but does offer a great opportunity to look at wildlife, especially waterfowl up close.
This chap was one of the first birds we came across, and he (she?) along with others was diving and retrieving objects from the bottom of the pond. This one had just been trying to decide if what looked like a pine cone was edible.
I failed to identify it at the time and have not done much better since getting home, but I'll keep trying. I chose it because I really like the 'hair-do', but it had to beet lapwings, a greater spotted woodpecker and numerous other options to be today's blip photo.
Then it was back down the M4 home for a roast meal and a film on the TV. Not a bad day out at all!
