30, 000 cyclists
The 94.7 Cycle Challenge was a hot one this year at 24 degrees when these guys went past at about 08:30.
One of the biggest races in the world these crazy people cycle 94.7 kms with most raising money for charity. The guys in the cow costumes support CHOC, a charity that provides support to kids with cancer. Many take people with disabilities on modified bikes.
One guy came off his bike just down from where we were standing. Connecting his face with the tarmac resulted in fractures of his orbit and cheek bones and the end of his race. A girl landed on her butt just a little further on but her softer landing just left her giggling as she was helped back on her way.
The two in wedding garb were hoping to be the lucky winners of an island honeymoon sponsored by the radio station that established the race.
Always a good morning with lots of banter and words of encouragement to those finding the uphill a bit of a challenge.
