Life saver

Took a trip to the Yorkshire dales National park an spent a very pleasant day walking on Buckden Pike. It isn't a great big hill but the views of Upper Wharfedale and beyond are extensive. it was far to hazy for good landscape pictures. Buckden Pike has a sad but happy WWII story. A polish crewed Wellington Bomber crashed in a winter storm on the hill and only one of the aircrew survived. Injured he followed the tracks of a fox in the snow until he could see the lights of a nearby farmhouse. In memory of his friends and the fox that saved his life he erected a cross with the brass fox at its base in thanks.
