Finding Vivian Maier
Sadly, no snapshot could really do justice to the brilliant film I've just had the good fortune to view tonight, at the very first US screening at New York's Documentary Film Festival
The story of Vivian Maier's life and work is remarkable and the filmmakers have managed to share the highs and lows without turning maudlin and with a great dollop of humor. The interviews with the kids who she was once nanny for (now grown) are sprinkled throughout the film and run the gamut of revealing Miss Maier's character. I can't tell much in a short paragraph here, but suffice to say, vivian was, and still is, quite an enigma.
Michael Moore showed up (along with the two filmmakers) to host the Q&A - he was actually so moved by the film that he rambled on about it for a while and didn't leave much time for audience questions. Which actually was just fine with me.
