Mackintosh Detail
It has been a busy day preparing for meetings. This morning we had a Mackintosh Tour group from Lancashire. After giving my talk the sun started to burst through the Mackintosh Church.
As I have not taken many Mackintosh images lately I decided to quickly capture an image of the back of the Pulpit. The light was just right and this low viewpoint looking up towards the oval detail shows off the beautiful texture of the wood.
It is believed the oval detail at the back of the pulpit is an interpretation of a Pelican. The Pelican is a symbol of Christ because according to myth she feeds her young with blood from her breast in times of the scarcity of food and thereby gives her life for her young.
Mackintosh never explained the meanings behind his imagery. You can investigate but there can be no conclusion.
