The red bush

On another cold afternoon, on another Argyllshire hillside, this bush suddenly blazed beside the path in front of me. One of the drawbacks of living on a north-easterly facing coastline is that we lose the sun very early in the winter - you can just see the last vestiges of sunlight on the hillside above - but up here there was a wide, pale sky and then this splash of red.

An hour later, as we headed home, we found ourselves walking in almost complete darkness as the clouds added to the effect of the dusk.
