HBD., hundred blip day; the expression comes to mind so regularly but nearly always with some frustration as these photographic bumper opportunities coincide with stressful site days when there is a lot to do.
It was right cold today. We got up to a covering of snow and the temperature has lingered around zero much of the day. It was very bright however with white clouds and blue skies. We were working on the slightly shady south slopes of an east west running valley. Towards midday the sun did achieve sufficient elevation to put a sparkle in the crunchy snow around us. By this time the snow on the north side of Glen Moriston, south facing, had largely evaporated. It was like the hills taking on a sun tan.
The burn we were working around had icy flanks and the water was very cool. Even in the shade there was a clarity to the air which really seemed to favour the lens. As I say you could have spent the day walking up the bank of this mountain stream taking snaps of tumbling water falls, glinting snow covered bracken and elegant Caledonian pines.
Our work was in two distinct phases today and when we completed the first one we had a break for tea and I had a quick wander over to this old bridge. I scrambled down the bank and looked towards the ancient structure, nature had done all the photoshop for me. It’s bizarre looking at something in the flesh thinking it is over sharpened.
