Fisheye gasometers
The eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted a slight 'blot' on Bath's landscape in my image yesterday - three large gasometers that have graced the Bath skyline at the Weston end of town (not far from where I live actually) since Victorian times.
Rumour had it that the three had been listed (i.e. had a preservation order placed on them) because they've been left standing for so long - way after they stopped being used to store gas. Probably an urban myth... but it's the kind of thing that gets people excited when you live in a world heritage site.
Anyway, two of the three are now being dismantled to make way for a new housing development. The fact that one is being left standing gives some credence to the rumour above I guess!
This is another panorama, stitched together from 6 images using Hugin in 'fisheye' mode.
Update: I've put a non-fisheye version on Flickr if you are interested. Looking around the Web, this article from Bath Heritage Watch gives some of the background... and this provides local news coverage (including the error pointed out by BHW). So they aren't listed apparently... and one of the three (the largest I think) remains because it is still in use. Sounds a little odd to me?? Oh, and the important one, from a heritage perspective, has already been cut up :-(
