Homework Heroes
I will admit right here and now that we have REALLY struggled getting into any kind of routine with Arlo's school. I know the house move // renovation // move scenario didn't help but also I don't really think we comprehended the MASSIVE difference school would make to our lives.
I honestly think there needs to be some kind of transition support out there for parents. Unless its just me that thinks that? Is it?
Anyway - we are half way through the 2nd term and finally I feel like we're getting somewhere. I have finally got the school uniform & school bag & packed lunch stuff under control and I'm now starting to feel we're on top of homework and the reading.
I wouldn't worry so much about homework at this stage if it wasn't for the fact that reading is so phenomenally important and that boys tend to be less interested. I want to get him up and running before he loses interest.
So - homework days are now Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. He does a wee bit on each day and nobody has a stress out. Ida can't cope with the extra attention Arlo's getting but we're working on it. And The Dog and I are finally getting used to the idea that our weeks are regimented, structured and at the mercy of the Scottish education system.
Ooft. For all those parents out there who are yet to join this mental routine - embrace the freedom. You're going back to school, whether you like it or not!
