apples in late autumn light

We still have two trees giving us loads of apples. This one is a cooker, the other is giving us bright red apples, they look like cricket balls, that are very sweet. We have now got bowls of both outside the front gate hoping passers will take some. We will have to think about a fruit crush for next year, that should use up some of the surplus.
I had another problem today, a mathematical puzzle. We have a new wood store, that is over 3 cubic metres in capacity. Why then, when I buy and load up 3 metres of wood, do I end up with quite a lot left over? Was it my very poor stacking (glass half empty) or was it we got more wood than we paid for (glass half full). Either way hopefully we now have enough wood to see us through most of the winter.
One other thing, 21 November and look at the blue sky. A lot different from yesterday and this morning.
