Vines

These were outside of Matha in France. Seems a bit odd to me that in Cognac country you had such small vineyards. Seems that in the seventies the French Govt. encouraged the pulling up of vines in favour of corn and sunflowers; they anticipated a decline in the popularity of cognac. Now the Chinese are getting a taste for fine XO it looks like fresh vines may be planted. The is area from Varaize to Nere is reputed to be the best terroir for this variety used in cognac. Could see some bigger vineyards here in years to come.
