Spare a thought for the earth

Running rest-day ...

... I've mentioned before how much I like Hugh MacDiarmid's poetry; well the pictured volume is from 1954 and a bit of a prized-possession in my large poetry collection :-)

Here's one of MacDiarmid's most well-known poems, from within this 1954 'selected poems':

The Bonnie Broukit Bairn

Mars is braw in crammasy,
Venus in a green silk goun,
The auld mune shak's her gowden feathers,
Their starry talk's a wheen o' blethers,
Nane for thee a thochtie sparin'
Earth, thou bonnie broukit bairn!
- But greet, an' in your tears ye'll drown
The haill clanjamfrie!
