VILLAGE SCENE - TWO

We had a very successful shopping trip and bought a load of Christmas presents. Usually we wander around and come home with very little.

My blip is taken from the middle of the village green. The cottage in the picture is called Mary's Cottage and several generations of the tenants were parish constables. The tiny brick built building at the back was the village lock-up and prisoners were kept there over night, often to sober up before being taken to the town prison.
There is a little hole in the door of the lock-up and the story goes that one constable's wife used to take pity on the prisoners and take them out a tea pot. They drank from the spout which was pushed through the hole!

The white fence on the right of the picture is around the village pump.
